Downhill SeriesLast night we had our 6th and final Kokanee Phat Wednesday of the summer and 2011. As usual we followed tradition and held our infamous chainless A-line race. Costumes were more than welcome and we saw a lot of skin, along with the Jamaican bobsled team, a pirate ship and Optimus Prime. 170 racers came out to race and show their support for The Geddes A-line Classic, so named in honour of local racer Nick Geddes who is fighting leukemia at BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver.
The community really rallied together to show their support for such a great cause. Local businesses donated prizing and we held a raffle and live auction to raise money. After discussing with Nick's family, their wish is that all proceeds will go to the BC Children's Hospital Foundation – Balding for Dollars program where money raised to goes to programs which directly support the children and their families during and after treatment with 20% going to research itself. Last night we raised $3000. Good news was announced last night, Nick, although still in isolation after his bone marrow transplant, was able to get on the spin bike. (you just can't keep him off a bike!).
The race was a success with Zander Geddes taking top spot in the Junior Male Category with Sarah Leishman toping the podium in the Female category, Mathieu Hebert leading the Master Males and Ian Morrison was the fastest man of the night in the Male Category with a time of 4:17.46.
Après at the GLC was the same great time as usual and so many great prizes from our sponsors its hard to name them all.
I would like to sincerely thank everyone who donated a prize to such a great cause:
Whistler Blackcomb and the Whistler Bike Park, Summit Sports, Skiis and Biikes, Fanatyk Co., The GLC, Garbanzo Bike and Bean, CanSki, Bike Co, Katmandu, Spicy Sports, Evolution, Coast Mountain Photography, Scandinave Spa, Sram, Maxxis, Kali and many others.
I would also like to take the time to thank our volunteers, they come out to marshal and help time our races and we couldn't do it without them. A special thanks also goes to the Bike Park Patrol, and the trail crew for keeping the park safe and in great shape. Cheers.

The 1st Kokanee Phat Wednesday of 2011 was held last night is a special edition Phat Friday. With Canucks hockey playoff fever, we postponed the first Phat Wednesday to Friday. But that didn't stop 180 racers from coming out. And as is tradition our first race started with a newly re-built B-line. With extended play not happening in the park yet (Starts today – June 18th) the riders had the mountain to themselves and we were able to run an extra long course without fear of closing too much of the park to public. And extended the race into Heart of Darkness. This was one of our longest Phat Wednesday courses with the fastest time over 5 minutes. James Dodds was the fastest male at 5:16.05. Our fastest female of the night was Sarah Leishman, the only female under 6 minutes with a time of 5:53.80. (she was chainless too).
Anther tradition, when racing on B-Line, some riders choose flaunt their flow and ride chainless. This is a $5 side bet winner takes all. Once again, proving he has flow, Adam Billinghurst took the chainless championship with a time of 55:24.31 Some say that the "B" in B-Line stand for Billinghurst. Sarah Leishman also proved she has flow and took the top women's chainless spot.
Once again we wrapped up the race with après at the GLC and some ice cold Kokanee and some prizes courtesy of our sponsors, Kokanee, WORCA, the GLC. Some prizes handed out included 2 Sram drive trains, Truvativ cranks, pedals, and bars, Maxxis tires, a Go Pro helmet cam and many other prizes from AlpineStar, Odi, and Garbanzo Bike and Bean.
