Brian here with your pre-Crankworx report. What a difference a week makes, the rains came back to Whistletown and the fire hazard is no longer a concern. Now we are back to managing water runoff and one of the results was the "rain check" on Ninja Cougar. With all the effort put in already we decided to keep the cat in the bag until the trail dries out. The forecast looks good for the coming days and it should go from mushy to tacky pretty quickly.
The courses for all the Crankworx races are set and people that find a way to get to Whistler this week will have a chance to scope them out (with the exception of the new dual slalom) and start the visualization process. For anyone that has not already found the Garbanzo Downhill course description here it is in a nut shell:
Start on Original Sin, cross Orange Peel and back into Original Sin to the step-ups, from there, Blue Velvet exit to Bear Cub, turn Right to In Deep and ride the whole way to the Expressway Container into Duffman. Duffman the whole way into Golden Triangle then World Cup Singletrack - Ho Chi Min to upper Heart of Darkness, cross the road pedal the flats and cross Double Vision into Monkey Hands, merge into final berms of Double Vision over the final jump and finish in skiers' plaza. The faster racers will probably ride all of that in less time than it took me to tap this out with three fingers on the keyboard.
The Double Vision Dual Slalom course was the site of this weeks Phat Wednesday race and the courses timed out at pretty close to even with about 5 riders hitting the same time on both courses. Check out the gallery for some eye candy of the race. Kenny Smith, Stacy Kohut, Tristan Merrick
