Extreme, a word that was basically worn out in the 1990's, so much so that it makes me cringe when ever it is associated with any sport I participate in. Dictionary dot com defines extreme as, "exceeding the bounds of moderation" which I guess is really anything above average. Extreme-ness has been used to market everything from soft drinks to deodorant and believe it or not, even cheese! The only time you will see The Bike Park and Extreme in the same sentence, when written by me, is when I am referring to the fire hazard, which by the way is still Extreme.
This weeks update is going to sound a lot like last week because the conditions have not changed much. The trails are dry and loose and the crew has been working hard at patching holes on Heart of Darkness as well as buffing up some sections on lower A-Line. Once the crowds hit the trails, the boys move back to the dual slalom and Ninja Cougar to keep building away at these two anticipated trails. By my calculations we are still about two weeks out from offering them up. The Garbanzo work on No Joke and Freight Train is also progressing nicely and we will have some great new trail that will blow your minds when they are done in the next few weeks.
The new monstrosity growing out of the dirt above the Fitz maze, is the final drop feature for the Redbull Roundup. This two day event will be split between a movie set street setup in Vancouver on the 26th and the Double Vision Dual Cross in the Park on Sunday July 27th. The final feature is being brought to you by the dynamic duo of Chris Ramsey and Marty Gautry. Everyone should know who Marty is by now, he is the wizard who brings you most of the jumps in the park and will be prepping the berm and landing for the final drop. Chris is the guy who brought you the all-new Airdome drop and jumps and is building the wood structure for this show. It should be a good spectator friendly event so come and check it out, I'm sure there will be some extreme biking going on for sure. Well there goes that promise, I'll see you there.
