Wow time flies when you’re having fun. It’s hard to believe it has been over a week since the last installment of the BP report. And what a week. The Boneyard Air Affair went off with just over 50 riders throwing down some sick moves. It was pretty cool to see four juniors in the eight person final. It was also, great to see Stephanie Nychka out there representing the female side. The comp was won by Casey Groves a 16 year old ripper from Kelowna. If you missed it you will be able to see Casey ride in the Kokanee Crankworx Slopestyle event.
Wednesday night marked the beginning of both the Phat Wednesdays Race Series and Women’s Nights. There was a huge turn out for both; more than 200 racers and 65 women. Women’s Nights are now on every Monday and Wednesday evening until the end of August. Check it out. For beginner Park riders, Bike Park 101 begins on Tuesday, June 24th and runs every Tuesday and Friday night throughout the summer. Similar to Women's Night packages include a lift ticket, bike rental and lesson, this is the best way to introduce your friends to the Park.
On the trail front, unfortunately, we are not able to crack Garbanzo for this weekend but it will be ready to go for the season on Friday, June 27th. Time to start pumping up those forearms. On the positive side, Double Vision the new Giant Slalom course weaving through the Boneyard will be ready for ripping beginning on Saturday. The course looks unbelieveable and everybody here is looking forward to some head to head action.
The crew has also completed a killer new section of Dirt Merchant in between the Easy Does It overpass and the Rutabagga rock drop. Chunder has been replaced by two immaculate 180 degree berms and a good sized table top leading into the recently remodelled section before the big step up. An incredible trail just got a step closer to perfection.
Before wrapping up, a quick word to anyone riding the last couple of weekends. As the conditions have improved more riders have been coming out which has created some rather large (and long) lift lines for the Fitz Chair. The reason we are not able to run the Gondola to relieve the pressure is because this is the time of the year when we need to maintain what is busiest lift in North America (the motor is out as this is being written). The good news is that both Garbanzo and the Gondola will be open next weekend. Further, with the P2P Gondola coming on for next summer we have adjusted our maintenance schedule allowing the Village Gondola to be open by the end of May next year. In the mean time, ride early, ride late, miss the crowds.
