The Bike Park closed for the season on October 12th, 150 amazing days after it opened on May 16th. And, what a season it was. Mother Nature definitely delivered big time throughout. The icing on the cake was an incredible final weekend. Although temperatures were on the cool side - below freezing in Garbanzo, the riding was the best of the season. The frosted conditions up high made Garbanzo as grippy as velcro - well not quite, but to put it in perspective, Gavin one the BP's patrollers commented that it was so sticky that he "could have stopped and pulled a track stand on Captain Safety".
Lower on the mountain, Marty's top to bottom A-Line rebuild was masterful, with many riders commenting that the world's most ridden trail was in the best condition; EVER!. The icing on the A-Line cake was the installation of a new Race Face wall ride at the step up before the Easy Does It underpass. The progression continues.
All in all, it was a fantastic finish to a fantastic season. More riders than ever hit the park this summer with visits up more than 10% making this the 11th consecutive record year for the most visited Bike Park in the world. If you were one of them, we hope you enjoyed the riding as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you.
This year is a wrap but plans are already being developed to make next year even better. Look for continued expansion of intermediate trails in Garbanzo, high alpine access, a new Whiskey Jack single track and a bigger commitment to maintaining and improving the existing trail network. Finally, don't forget that A-Line will open next season in the best condition EVER! Thanks for your support and interest in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. See you next year.
