This is my favorite time of year! It never used to be that way, when I was in school and had to face the reality of going from the freedom of riding bikes and coming home when the street lights went on to homework and the shackles of confinement behind a desk. The trails are in good shape, the temperature is perfect and the light at this time of year makes for some epic film and photo opportunities. The shooters have been roaming the park getting their final footage for the year and if you look closely you can see some of the pros rocking top secret prototype gear for 2009 release.
I am pleased to announce for the second time in two weeks that we are opening up more new trail for your riding pleasure. "New Joke" will be open as of today and is a continuation of "No Joke" for anyone that has been under a rock and missed all of the rumors and hype of the entire summer. The trail is characterized by single track riding on well armored surfaces with bridges over creeks and steep switchbacks, just before the trail's merge with Freight Train, riders will be treated to the roller coaster bridge masterpiece built by the trail crew to negotiate a rock dome and creek crossing. You are going to like it!
The most confusing aspect of riding at this time of year is the chairlift access to the park. The lifts open and close based on the days of the week with access to Garbanzo's trail network via the Village Gondola during the week days. Garbanzo fires up for the weekends until the 28th of September which is the final day for that lift for the season. From the 29th to the 10th of October (Mid Week) the Garbanzo trails will be closed but will open up on weekends via the Village Gondola. Phew, glad that's done, it felt like a math problem trying to figure that one out!
